Stone Bay is a good read, although I must confess my interest in reading it may not be the usual. The author has set the story in Downeast Maine, and my first interest is in seeing how the area is represented. More on that part, later.Eschewing the usual Romance tenets, the hero and heroine are introduced right up front, both with the requisite movie star good-looks, only without a serious impediment to overcome before they fall into each other's arms. They don't hate each other, there's no jealousies or bad blood, only the vestiges of a professional relationship.
The lack of inter-personal conflict reduces conflict to a simple question: how many pages will be turned before the knickers come down? Not so many, as it works out. Rather than overcoming personal barriers they work together to solve a different kind of puzzle. You'll have to read the story to learn what that is, and I do think the time will be well spent.
The Victorian language, adolescent lust-at-first-sight, and on-the-nose dialogue makes the novel read like a YA offering, except for the sex. Did I say sex? Those scenes are so tight, so probing, that many readers will, undoubtedly, put the book aside momentarily while they go off to seek succor. Nothing kinky, mind you, but a roll in the hay that would leave most panting.
The writing is craftsman like and clean, with fewer errors than many self-published works. The story line is linear, but without subplots. Both primary characters are well developed, although a few character flaws might make them seem more real. To me, they seem too perfect. A few awkward POV shifts slow down the read, but they are not a big problem.
Back to my initial question. Aside from a few historical details, the story could have been placed in a backwater Chesapeake Bay town, or on the Oregon coast. Placing random `Ayuhs' in the mouths of locals is a shopworn cliché, besides nobody here has said that since the old Bert and I records became passé. And the Hemlocks don't turn vibrant colors, not even on October 15. At least the author avoided the trend, unfortunately in vogue with some Downcoast writers who really should know better, to depict the area as a drug-infested hellhole. But the story is not about place, it is about people, emotional recovery, and learning to trust.
All in all, a good yarn. A perfect beach-read.

The author managed to include enough interesting geographical and archeological tidbits into this steamy romance novel, which along with a 200 year old mystery, kept the reader rapidly turning pages to the very end.
Kept your interest from beginning to end. Realistic love story with some unique Down East, Maine history. Definitely looking forward to the next in this series!
I loved this first in the series and looking forward to the next two. It's hard to believe this is her first novel. Very quick reading. Keep writing so I can keep reading!!
I enjoyed the references to history and archeology. Just enough romance, but still a good story. Hope to hear more of the Texan lost down East.
Who can resist a sexy romance, a wonderful old house, intriguing characters, and a splash of mystery? Amanda and Kevin are strong, funny, and people we'd all like to know. I hope these two appear again in this series. I enjoyed this book tremendously.
Having read Stone Cold first, it was interesting to see the background for Stone Cold. A nice read, not as gripping as I had hoped.
I am not normally a romance reader but was turned on to Stone Bay by friends and turned on is the correct term. Min Edwards can write sex and the steamy scenes fill most of the pages. If you are not dreaming of a man like Kevin Franklin by the end of this fast paced tale, take your pulse. I am waiting and wanting more.
