Brazen Gilded Christina Farley Books

In this book, Farley really found her voice with the action sequences. In both Gilded and Silvern, I’ve felt let down by the emotional connections between characters. Finally in Brazen, Farley really shines with her quick paced action.

The first part of the book is focused around Jae trying to recover from the events at the end of Silvern. I wish I had read these farther apart, as I think she does a great job portraying Jae’s anger and loss, but again, I never felt Jae’s connection to any characters that weren’t her grandfather or father. Reading them farther apart would allow me to mourn the characters more fully, as they were never fleshed out on paper. My complaints from my last review about Jae’s friendships still hold true for this book.

I really love what she does in the first half of the book with Marc and Jae- with all their secrecy from each other, the separation begins to tease this other life that Marc has. Jae’s contract to Kud keeps her out of the way of those she loves, and she isn’t strong enough yet to fight it. I really appreciated Farley taking the time to develop these parallel lives for the characters. A lot of the maneuvering Jae does trying to regain the trust of the Guardians of Shinshi makes up the most interesting parts of the book.

Out of all three books, the pacing of the action, the plotting and the intrigue is balanced the best in Brazen. This book keeps you wondering how these characters will get out of these impossible situations. As Jae engages more and more with the Spirit World, will she really be able to return to the mortal world?

Brazen Gilded Christina Farley Books Reviews

Christina Farley has done it again. Her third book in the Gilded series continues the breathless ride in and out of spirits worlds with 16-year-old Kwa Lee as she battles to save Korea and the world from powerful evil spirit masters. Farley does a fine job of intertwining the teen romance between Marc and Kwa Lee with the larger life-threatening worlds they have to conquer. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes contemporary fantasy and young-adult novels!
So I know your wondering. Why didnt this one get 5 amazing stars. Well for me I really wanted more of an ending. Over the course of these books I have been drawn into their lives. And I would have really loved to see an epilogue set 5 or 10 years into the future so we knew what was going on. Other than that this book was on par with the other two!

These are def. books that you shouldnt read back to back. Put a few other books in-between and they feel kind of repeaty if you don't. Since I was reading them back to back to back. I found myself skimming over sections that were just there to bring the reader up to date. So putting some other titles in between these would work out great. Then those sections would just help you along the way.

The characters in this one grow even more as each page turns and the ending was very good other than no epilogue. This is one fantasy series that everyone should read!

Go Into This One Knowing
Breathtaking Story of Empowerment!
Jae Hwa is faced with the hard truth that her choices may have isolated her and that she may no longer have allies since the guardians of Korea now hold her as an enemy being marked as a slave of Kud. The only people she hopes will listen to her true purpose and mission is Marc and her grandfather, but doubt plagues even Jae Hwa when death and destruction always follow her. In the end Jae Hwa knows she will have to fight for more than just her freedom and it may come at the cost of her life or those dear to her.

You don’t have to remember everything from Gilded and Silvern to read Brazen. Christina does a wonderful job at pulling us back into Jae’s world. This book was action packed with adventure and thrills. What I love about the story is Farley doesn’t make it easy for Jae to retrieve the orb. She has hurdled along the way but stays strong and confident. Just when you think she can’t get a break, BOOM, Farley throws us a lifeline.

The world building was excellent! But that’s to be expected from Christina. Every detail and setting is well defined. Her writing flows to make the pace fast, which makes you not want to put the book down. Right from the opening of ..."darkness will eat you alive, piece by piece, until there is nothing left except emptiness and loneliness..." It grabbed me, drew me in and gave me wonderful few hours.

Thank you, Christina, for concluding a wonderful series with an epic ending!
Many series authors talk about having the opportunity to pick up the pace a bit in later books in a series because they’ve already laid the foundation of the worlds and characters. Christina Farley has done this with a vengeance. From page 1, the ride is on nitro-power, afterburners aglow and rarely a breath before the end. It’s almost as if she’s saying “You want action? I’ll give you action!” Now don’t get me wrong, this isn’t dumbed-down action devoid of dialog, characters or continued world building. It is, however, fast. There is a sense that Ms. Farley has grown more comfortable with her characters and their setting as she completes the series. She continues to grow her world with new characters or deeper dives into existing characters, we have China thrown into the mix and see interaction between Korean and Chinese forces as well as a glimpse into the Chinese mythical world. There is serious strife in the land of Azure Hills. Indeed, even as Kud’s efforts to take over the Spirit World’s equivalent of South Korea make headway, we see prescient rumblings between North and South Korea in the regular world all too familiar to our own recent news. (For a synopsis of the story, see Goodreads. There are spoilers below for those how haven't read Gilded, book 1 or Silvern, book 2. Read those prior to the book and this review)
