One of my favorite romance novel plots is the friends to lovers story. This was cute and some of the writing was good. I loved the scene when Matt accidentally decorates the priest's car with "Just Married" stuff because his car is the same color as the bride's. I loved the pop culture references. And I liked the bad bridesmaids' and groomsmen outfits. But I thought Jess and Riley were kind of immature--I couldn't really connect with them. And I didn't like their families taking bets on when they would fall in love--that was just silly, in my humble opinion.
I liked the Kentucky setting, but I wasn't really sure where in Kentucky the book was set. Was it Northern Kentucky like Covington, Newport or Florence? Or further south like Louisville or Lexington?
Like the other reviewers, I found a lot of typos--one that really bugged me was "nevermind" as all one word. Also, the copy on my Kindle was in two different fonts, which was very distracting. And I didn't like the characters dropping f-bombs, etc.

Jess Reynolds and Carla Callahan have been best friends since childhood along with her idiot older brother Riley. Jess is now handling her Maid of Honor duties for Carla and Evan's upcoming wedding in a bridesmaid's dress that was from the 1800's era. Of course it would not be a very interesting storyline without some mishaps along the way building up to the wedding.

I loved how Crystal Bowling written the strong friendship and love storyline between Jess and Riley. The bannering back and forth between these two through the years is just building up to a loving relationship to last a lifetime. Everyone has seen this and has even placed wagers on these two through the years.

I laughed from start to finish the quick wit humor between Jess and Riley, Carla's outbursts, Anne's advice on sex/foreplay, and the mothers and other family members on both sides expressing their comments into Jess and Riley's love life.
Its Wedding fever time in Book #1 of Crystal Bowling's Always the Bridesmaid series as Jess's best friend Carla is getting married and it seems that everyone has a date except for her . Jess however hasn't got time to date since being Maid of Honour for her best friend's wedding seems to be taking up all her time and if that's not bad enough she has to suffer through wearing purple/ lavender as her friend wants a big Southerner themed wedding. Growing up it was always Carla, Jess and Riley - Carla's big brother and now with Carla getting married , the pressure is on Jess to find someone. What will happen though when Riley makes a suggestion that they move in together which will give Carla and Evan - the new husband-to-be more space ? With the move, it seems that pushing Riley and Jess together and making them think it's their ideas , has sparked the romantic chemistry part of their brain and they are starting to realise that maybe they don't hate each other as much as they thought but in reality - they are actually the perfect couple and meant to be ? When it gets to the interesting part which is where the title comes in - it seems that the whole world knows that Riley and Jess should be together, the only ones that are clueless are Riley and Jess themselves. With the help of their friends and family, can the pair "officially" start dating and being boyfriend and girlfriend ? Or will the pair be stubborn and set to prove everything else wrong -that they aren't meant to be ?
Find out in "Always the Last to Know" by Crystal Bowling, Book #1 in the Always a Bridesmaid Series.
This was a delightful free read from . It had charm, wit and a healthy dose of humor.

Jess Reynolds is in full swing of her maid of honor duties for her best friend Carla's upcoming wedding. It wouldn't be so bad if she didn't have to be seen in a bridesmaid's dress "the Civil War era threw up on", dodge her mother's hints about finding a date in time for the wedding (because God forbid the maid of honor shows up without one), and trying to avoid Carla's attempts at hooking her up with the gorgeous best man. And then there is Riley. Carla's "older idiot brother".

He tended to put bugs in my hair; I tended to put his hand in warm water while he was sleeping whenever I stayed over at Carla's.

Jess and Carla have been best friends for over twenty-two years. She's known Riley just as long but their friendship has always been rooted in playing pranks on one another as kids, and as adults it has morphed into verbal sparring matches. As the wedding nears, Riley surprisingly suggests that Jess move in with him, since the newly weds will be needing their own space. The idea of moving back in with her parents horrifies her so Riley would be the lesser of two evils. The more time they spend together, the more their verbal jabs lose steam. It's not long before she's stealing looks at Riley and noticing things she's never seen before.

I drop my head into my palm. Seriously, why do I find this at all attractive? A week ago, this conversation would have had me wanting to hit Riley's head against the wall. And now, I want to throw Riley against that wall and make out with him until our lips fall off.

When friends and family aren't surprised by her latest epiphany, she's stunned. Was she really the last to know?

I laughed from start to finish. The characters are all quite lovable. Was this cheesy? Yes, but I loved the lightheartedness of it. If you enjoyed 27 Dresses or My Big, Fat, Greek Wedding, I think you'll like this too.
