I voluntarily read this ARC. It's the first in a series. It was great kept me intrigued not wanting to put it down. The story of Maer a Crown Prince by battle not birth. Also Andalia a princess who just wants to live her life herself, a runaway who is a warrior herself. Will her sins be forgiven ? Will Maer guilt be less.Will they find each other ?
A definite recommend. Grab it now I love ebooks

Maer is sent to war with his brother by their father the King.
Thousands die along with his brother and Maer is sent to become a soldier too.
Andalia is a mercenary with a group of men. She was a princess but ran away when her father tried to marry her off. She thinks she is an equal till her band takes coin from someone who knows who she is and wants to rape her.
The story shows how both were pawns used by their parents to get more land, money or teach them to be like them.
I enjoyed the story and can't wait to see what happens to them.

I love how the characters are brought to life & how the reader gets drawn in and invested in their lives. Maer was happy to be the spare to the throne but then fate deals his family a blow that puts him next in line. Andalia is running away from a future she didn't want and lands in a situation that could have gone a lot worse. Definite must read.
This was very good that I ordered the second book.
I should be able to rate without commentary
Great story about two people who it seems come from very different stations in life and how their lives start to intersect. It will be very interesting to see where the story goes from the end of this book.
Though somewhat disjointed this lays good ground work for a trilogy set. Why not send both princes to get the special training before the expedition? Why have a character so flawed in a position of power that putting him down is a reasonable thing to do? Why the reveal to the story character but not the reader?
Loved the way the author kept the action going between the multiple characters, the battle scenes, the good guys and girls and the bad guys and girls. It is a great start to the series and I will be looking toward the following novels. If you are looking to read something in this genre, then you have found it, get it, read it and enjoy it as I did.
